Fence painting in Hampton Park

About fence painting

Hampton Park's seventies-to-nineties homes have fences that have been finished once at most — and many have never been coated at all. Weathered palings are the suburb's default, and they respond beautifully to proper preparation and paint.

We work across the suburb on backyard boundaries, front fences and side returns. The free on-site quote measures the runs, assesses condition and itemises the work — including the gates and posts that often get forgotten in cheaper quotes.

What the job involves

Weathered timber, brought back

Grey, rough palings are surface weathering, not a death sentence. Cleaning removes the grime and mould, sanding removes the fuzzy grey layer, and a quality stain or paint then soaks into sound timber and transforms the line.

Where a fence has been painted before, the failing areas get stripped and sanded back so the new coat feathers in cleanly. Flat, low-lying blocks mean damp lingers here, so drying time between stages gets respected — it is the difference between a finish that lasts and one that lifts.

Every fence surface is different

Weathered timber palings, previously painted fences, stained timber and metal fencing each need a different preparation path. Greyed timber is cleaned and sanded so coatings can grip; failing paint is scraped back to sound edges; metal is washed, de-rusted where needed and primed with a compatible product.

Posts, rails, gates and capping are part of the job, not extras. A fence is only as tidy as its framework, so the scope covers the whole structure — and if a paling or post is beyond a recoat, we tell you at the quote rather than painting over it.

Boundaries and access

Fences sit on boundaries, which brings practical questions: which side are we painting, is there access along the line, and are there neighbours, retaining walls, gardens or pools to work around? We walk the fence line during the quote and plan the access before starting.

Where a fence is shared, most owners organise their own side. We're happy to quote one side or both, and to keep the scope clear about exactly which line and which faces are included.

Choosing the finish

Colour and opacity set the tone of the whole yard. A solid colour hides weathering completely and pairs with the house palette; a semi-transparent stain lets the grain show and weathers more gently. Lighter colours can make a small garden feel bigger, while dark tones make greenery stand out.

Exposure matters too — fences in full sun, under sprinklers or beside pools need finishes chosen for those conditions. We talk through options at the quote and name the finish in your written scope.

Local knowledge

Flat blocks, damp mornings

Hampton Park's low-lying terrain affects fence work in a specific way: morning damp and slow drying. Coatings applied to damp timber fail early, so scheduling matters — we work with the weather rather than against it.

The suburb's straightforward blocks make the physical work efficient, which helps the price. What we do not shortcut is the preparation, because it is the whole reason a freshly painted Hampton Park fence still looks good years later.
