Which paint finish works best on interior walls?

Low sheen is the common choice for living areas because it is washable without looking shiny. Matt suits formal rooms and ceilings, while wet areas need a specific bathroom-rated product.

Can you fix cracks before painting?

Yes, we fill and sand small cracks, holes and dents as part of preparation. Larger structural cracks may need a builder or plasterer first, and we will tell you if we see any.

How do I choose interior colours?

We recommend testing sample pots on two walls and looking at them in morning and evening light. We are happy to talk through options during the free on-site quote.

How long should I wait before hanging pictures on fresh paint?

Give the walls at least a few days to firm up. Paint keeps curing for a couple of weeks, so treat new surfaces gently in that time.

Surfaces we work on

Plasterboard walls and ceilings

The most common interior surface. It needs filling and sanding where marked, and a suitable sealer on any new or patched sections so the finish coat looks even.

Timber trims and doors

Skirtings, architraves and doors take the most knocks. They are cleaned, lightly sanded and finished in a hard-wearing enamel or water-based trim paint.

Wet areas

Bathrooms and laundries are painted with mould-resistant products designed for humidity, after any existing mould is treated.

Paint and coating system

Most interior repaints are a prepared surface plus two finish coats. Ceilings are usually done in a flat finish to hide imperfections, walls in a low-sheen or matt finish that is easier to wipe, and trims in semi-gloss or gloss.

Where the colour change is dramatic, or the surface is new plaster, an undercoat or sealer is added first. We will explain which products we recommend and why before work starts.

Preparation steps
