Fence painting in Berwick

About fence painting

Berwick's mix of character homes and family estates means its fences carry different jobs: front fences that present to heritage-style streetscapes, and long backyard boundaries that frame established gardens. Each needs the right finish as well as the right preparation.

We paint and stain Berwick fences with that context in mind. The free on-site quote walks every run — front, side and rear — and the written scope itemises them separately so you can do the lot or stage the work.

What the job involves

Presentation fences and backyard boundaries

Front and street-visible fences get presentation-level finishing: clean lines, even coverage and colours that sit with the house palette. Backyard boundaries get the same preparation with durability weighted more heavily — they take the weather and the wear.

Older Berwick fences often carry layered previous coatings. Those are dealt with honestly: sound layers are cleaned and scuffed, failing layers are scraped and sanded back, and the new finish is applied over a surface that will hold it.

Every fence surface is different

Weathered timber palings, previously painted fences, stained timber and metal fencing each need a different preparation path. Greyed timber is cleaned and sanded so coatings can grip; failing paint is scraped back to sound edges; metal is washed, de-rusted where needed and primed with a compatible product.

Posts, rails, gates and capping are part of the job, not extras. A fence is only as tidy as its framework, so the scope covers the whole structure — and if a paling or post is beyond a recoat, we tell you at the quote rather than painting over it.

Boundaries and access

Fences sit on boundaries, which brings practical questions: which side are we painting, is there access along the line, and are there neighbours, retaining walls, gardens or pools to work around? We walk the fence line during the quote and plan the access before starting.

Where a fence is shared, most owners organise their own side. We're happy to quote one side or both, and to keep the scope clear about exactly which line and which faces are included.

Choosing the finish

Colour and opacity set the tone of the whole yard. A solid colour hides weathering completely and pairs with the house palette; a semi-transparent stain lets the grain show and weathers more gently. Lighter colours can make a small garden feel bigger, while dark tones make greenery stand out.

Exposure matters too — fences in full sun, under sprinklers or beside pools need finishes chosen for those conditions. We talk through options at the quote and name the finish in your written scope.

Local knowledge

Character streets, established gardens

Berwick's mature gardens mean fences sit among plantings that matter to their owners. We cover beds near the work area and plan the job around anything delicate — the walk-through at the quote is where you tell us what cannot be touched.

In character streetscapes, the wrong fence colour can jar against the period feel. We are happy to suggest palettes that suit older homes, and patch-testing on the timber shows you the real result before the whole fence is committed.
