Fence painting in Officer

About fence painting

Officer's growth-corridor streets are lined with fences at every stage: brand-new paling runs that have never seen a coating, and older boundaries from the suburb's established sections that have greyed over decades.

We paint and stain both. A first coat on new timber protects it from the start; a proper refinish on older timber brings it back. The free on-site quote assesses your fence's actual condition and sets the scope in writing.

What the job involves

New fences and old fences

New timber is not automatically ready for coating — some timbers and treatments need weathering or specific preparation first. We identify what your fence is made of at the quote and sequence the work so the first finish is also the right one.

Older Officer fences usually need the recovery path: cleaning out years of grime, sanding the greyed surface, spot-priming bare patches and applying an even finish over the whole run. Either way, gates, posts and capping are part of the job.

Every fence surface is different

Weathered timber palings, previously painted fences, stained timber and metal fencing each need a different preparation path. Greyed timber is cleaned and sanded so coatings can grip; failing paint is scraped back to sound edges; metal is washed, de-rusted where needed and primed with a compatible product.

Posts, rails, gates and capping are part of the job, not extras. A fence is only as tidy as its framework, so the scope covers the whole structure — and if a paling or post is beyond a recoat, we tell you at the quote rather than painting over it.

Boundaries and access

Fences sit on boundaries, which brings practical questions: which side are we painting, is there access along the line, and are there neighbours, retaining walls, gardens or pools to work around? We walk the fence line during the quote and plan the access before starting.

Where a fence is shared, most owners organise their own side. We're happy to quote one side or both, and to keep the scope clear about exactly which line and which faces are included.

Choosing the finish

Colour and opacity set the tone of the whole yard. A solid colour hides weathering completely and pairs with the house palette; a semi-transparent stain lets the grain show and weathers more gently. Lighter colours can make a small garden feel bigger, while dark tones make greenery stand out.

Exposure matters too — fences in full sun, under sprinklers or beside pools need finishes chosen for those conditions. We talk through options at the quote and name the finish in your written scope.

Local knowledge

Open estates, young gardens

New estates mean open positions and young gardens — fences take full sun with nothing to filter it, and they stand beside garden beds that are still being established. Protection of those beds is planned into the job from the quote.

Full-sun exposure also drives product choice: UV-rated finishes that hold their colour, and realistic maintenance intervals for exposed boundaries. We would rather set the expectation properly than have you surprised in five years.

It depends on the timber and treatment — some new timbers coat well immediately, others need a weathering period first. We identify the timber at the quote and tell you the right timing rather than guessing.
