Fence painting in Lysterfield

About fence painting

Lysterfield's bushland blocks make fences work harder: shaded boundaries that stay damp, leaf tannin staining, mould establishing in sheltered corners. Coatings here need preparation that takes the environment seriously.

We paint and stain fences across the suburb, from rural-style boundaries to garden fencing and entry structures. The free on-site quote walks the line — including access around trees and gardens — and sets out the scope in writing.

What the job involves

Shaded boundaries, biological cleaning

Shaded, damp fence lines grow mould and algae, and coating over them is the classic early-failure mistake. Preparation therefore starts with treatment and cleaning — killing and removing the growth before anything new is applied.

Leaf tannin and moisture also find every weakness in old coatings. Failing areas are stripped back to sound edges, bare timber is primed, and the finish is chosen to tolerate the damp, shaded conditions rather than just look good on day one.

Every fence surface is different

Weathered timber palings, previously painted fences, stained timber and metal fencing each need a different preparation path. Greyed timber is cleaned and sanded so coatings can grip; failing paint is scraped back to sound edges; metal is washed, de-rusted where needed and primed with a compatible product.

Posts, rails, gates and capping are part of the job, not extras. A fence is only as tidy as its framework, so the scope covers the whole structure — and if a paling or post is beyond a recoat, we tell you at the quote rather than painting over it.

Boundaries and access

Fences sit on boundaries, which brings practical questions: which side are we painting, is there access along the line, and are there neighbours, retaining walls, gardens or pools to work around? We walk the fence line during the quote and plan the access before starting.

Where a fence is shared, most owners organise their own side. We're happy to quote one side or both, and to keep the scope clear about exactly which line and which faces are included.

Choosing the finish

Colour and opacity set the tone of the whole yard. A solid colour hides weathering completely and pairs with the house palette; a semi-transparent stain lets the grain show and weathers more gently. Lighter colours can make a small garden feel bigger, while dark tones make greenery stand out.

Exposure matters too — fences in full sun, under sprinklers or beside pools need finishes chosen for those conditions. We talk through options at the quote and name the finish in your written scope.

Local knowledge

Bushland blocks, honest intervals

Living near the park means leaf litter returns every autumn and shaded timber needs more frequent attention than sunny suburban fences. We will give you the realistic maintenance interval for your fence rather than an optimistic one — that honesty is built into how we quote.

Properties range from standard house lots to acreage, and access shapes the work: tree cover, slopes, gates and gardens all get walked at the quote. Rural animal arrangements — dogs, horses, chooks — are planned around too.

FAQ

Fence painting questions in Lysterfield

A quality finish makes the surface easier to clean, but shade and damp keep the growth coming. The honest plan is treatment and cleaning before coating, plus a simple maintenance routine after. We will set that out at the quote.
